Kishau Multipurpose Project

 The Kishau Multipurpose Project is a major ₹15,000-crore river dam and hydroelectric plan on the Tons River—the largest tributary of the Yamuna—straddling the border of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. 

Key Project Details
  • Location: Border of Dehradun district (Uttarakhand) and Sirmaur district (Himachal Pradesh). 
  • Structure: A massive concrete gravity dam standing around 232 to 236 meters tall.
  • Power Generation: Designed capacity of around 422 MW to 660 MW, yielding over 1,400 million units of clean energy annually. 
  • Irrigation & Water Supply: Aims to irrigate nearly 97,000 hectares of land and supply drinking and industrial water to northern states. 
Participating States & Agreement
  • Six States Involved: Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan. 
  • Recent Breakthrough: After being stalled for roughly eight years over cost disputes, chief ministers of the six states signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in September 2026 to push the project forward. 
  • Funding Formula: The Central Government will fund 90% of the water component cost as assistance, with the remaining 10% shared among the six states. 
  • Power-Water Swap for Himachal: Because Himachal Pradesh does not currently need its full electricity share, its allocated water will go to Delhi and Rajasthan. In exchange, Delhi and Rajasthan will cover Himachal's portion of the power component costs. 
Objectives & Significance
  • Yamuna Rejuvenation: Regulates water storage and releases to help maintain cleaner environmental flows in the Yamuna River. 
  • Regional Water Security: Fills a major gap in upper Yamuna basin storage facilities to meet urban and agricultural demands.

The Union Government has released ₹260.20 crores to Rural Local Bodies in Kerala as XV Finance Commission grants for the Financial Year 2025- 26. ISRO developing semi-cryogenic engine working on LOX Kerosene propellant

ISRO is developing a 2000 kN thrust semi-cryogenic engine working on an LOX Kerosene propellant combination for enhancing the payload capability of LVM3 and for future launch vehicles. Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) is the lead centre for the development of semi-cryogenic propulsion systems with the support of other launch vehicle centres of ISRO. The assembly and testing of the propulsion modules were done at the ISRO propulsion complex (IPRC), Mahendragiri. As part of the engine development, a pre-burner ignition test article, which is a full complement of the engine power head system excluding the turbopumps is realized. The first ignition trial was conducted successfully on May 2, 2024, at semi cryo integrated engine test facility (SIET) at IPRC, Mahendragiri, which was dedicated to the nation recently by the honorable Prime Minister of India.
