This  comprehensive bilateral treaty was signed by Indian Prime Minister H. D. Deve Gowda and Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed on 12 December 1996 in the Indian capital New Delhi. The treaty established a 30-year water-sharing arrangement and recognised Bangladesh's rights as a lower-level riparian .   The second day of the 18th Meeting of the Heads of Intellectual Property (IP) Offices of BRICS countries was held in New Delhi today, September 2, 2026. The three-day meeting, hosted by the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks (O/o CGPDTM), DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, is being held from September 1 to 3, 2026. Around 35 delegates participated in the meeting through virtual and physical formats. The Government of India welcomes the decision of Japan Credit Rating Agency (JCR) to upgrade India’s Long-Term Foreign Currency and Local Currency Issuer Ratings by one notch from ‘BBB+’ to ‘A-’, while maintaining the Stable Outlook. JCR has also raised India’s country ceiling by one notch to ‘A’. The upgrade reflects India’s solid economic growth, the effectiveness of economic policies in strengthening the foundations for growth, and the improved soundness of the financial system . JCR noted that the Indian economy has maintained a high growth rate, supported by robust private consumption and public investment. The latest GDP estimates released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) indicate that real GDP growth remained strong at 7.8 per cent in FY26. The renovated memorial has been transformed into an immersive educational and commemorative space, featuring a redesigned central monument, sculptural installations, information hubs and murals depicting the history of the liberation struggle.
