Centre exempts CERT-In from RTI Act purview

This is the first time in seven years that an agency has been exempted from provisions of the  RTI Act , reported  The Hindu . Section 24 of the RTI Act says that nothing contained in this Act shall apply to the intelligence and security organisations specified in the second schedule. There are 26 other Central government intelligence and security agencies included in the Act’s Second Schedule. Some of the organisations are Intelligence Bureau, the Research and Analysis Wing, the Directorate of Enforcement and the National Technical Research Organisation etc. About CERT-In: CERT-In is operational since January 2004. Ladakh will soon have South East Asia's first Night Sky Sanctuary

Sanctuary is being set up with the help of Indian Institute of Astrophysics Bengaluru, which is affiliated to the Department of Science & Technology, Govt of India.   The Dark Sky Reserve will be located at Hanle village in Eastern Ladakh as a part of Changthang Wildlife Sanctuary. It will boost Astro-tourism in India and will be one of the world’s highest-located sites for optical, infra-red, and gamma-ray telescopes. Spread over 1,073 square kilometres, the Night Sky Reserve is located within the Changthang Wildlife Sanctuary and adjacent to the Indian Astronomical Observatory, the second-highest optical telescope in the world, of Indian Institute of Astrophysics at Hanle at an elevation of 4500 metres. In this regard, Tripartite MoU was signed among the UT Administration, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh and the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) for launching the Dark Space Reserve. Seabuckthorn

  Seabuckthorn is the source of "Leh Berry".  S eabuckthorn (Hippophae spp. L.) is an ecologically and economically important plant that belongs to the family Elaegnaceae. The species is a wind pollinated dioecious shrub. It has silvery deciduous leaves and colourful red, orange or yellow berries that remain on the shrub throughout the winter. The plant is hardy and it can withstand extreme temperatures from -43ºC to 40ºC and it is considered to be drought tolerant. The shrub develops extensive root system having ability to fix atmospheric nitrogen. It is therefore an ideal plant for soil erosion control, land reclamation, wildlife habitat enhancement, and farm stand protection in temperate region.
