Forest Advisory Committee ( FAC )
It was constituted as per the provisions of Art 3 of THE FOREST (CONSERVATION) ACT, 1980.
Its functions:
Advise that Government with regard to—
(i) the grant of approval under section 2; and
(ii) any other matter connected with the conservation of forests which may be referred to it by the Central Government.
As per THE FOREST (CONSERVATION) RULES, 2003, Composition of the Forest Advisory Committee is as follows : -
(1) The Advisory Committee shall consist of the following persons, namely: -

1. Director General of Forests, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change as Chairperson;
2. Additional Director General of Forests (Forest Conservation), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change as Member;
3. Additional Director General of Forests (Wildlife), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change as Member;
4. Additional Commissioner (Soil Conservation), Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare as Member;
5. Three experts to be nominated by the Central Government representing one each from
the fields of ecology, engineering and development economics as Non-official Members;
6. Inspector General of Forests dealing with Forest Conservation as Member - Secretary.
(2) Additional Director General of Forests shall act as the Chairperson in the absence of Director General of Forests.
