NHPC participates in Annual Meeting of International Commission on Large Dams, Gothenburg, Sweden

NHPC Limited, India’s largest hydropower development organization, participated in 91st Annual Meeting of International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD 2023), held in Gothenburg, Sweden from 11th to 15th June, 2023. 

The International Commission On Large Dams (ICOLD) is a non-governmental International Organization which provides a forum for the exchange of knowledge and experience in dam engineering.

 

The Organization leads the profession in ensuring that dams are built safely, efficiently, economically, and without detrimental effects on the environment. Its original aim was to encourage advances in the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of large dams and their associated civil works, by collecting and disseminating relevant information and by studying related technical questions.


The World Register of Dams (WRD) has been created by ICOLD in 1958 and is maintained ever since.


"A dam with a height of 15 metres or greater from lowest foundation to crest or a dam between 5 metres and 15 metres impounding more than 3 million cubic metres" is considered as a large dam by ICOLD Constitution. 


After a year of consultation, on October 18, 2019 in Porto, Portugal, the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) issued a World Declaration on Dam Safety. 

The goal of this World Declaration is to restate the fundamentals of Dam Safety that have been learned throughout the ages and to remind those institutions of the need for ensuring, through their decisions, that those principles are respected in order to reduce risks to humankind as a result of dam structures.

Interstellar Space: Interstellar space is often called the space between the stars, but more specifically, it’s the region between our Sun’s heliosphere and the astrospheres of other stars. ISRO developing semi-cryogenic engine working on LOX Kerosene propellant

ISRO is developing a 2000 kN thrust semi-cryogenic engine working on an LOX Kerosene propellant combination for enhancing the payload capability of LVM3 and for future launch vehicles. Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) is the lead centre for the development of semi-cryogenic propulsion systems with the support of other launch vehicle centres of ISRO. The assembly and testing of the propulsion modules were done at the ISRO propulsion complex (IPRC), Mahendragiri. As part of the engine development, a pre-burner ignition test article, which is a full complement of the engine power head system excluding the turbopumps is realized. The first ignition trial was conducted successfully on May 2, 2024, at semi cryo integrated engine test facility (SIET) at IPRC, Mahendragiri, which was dedicated to the nation recently by the honorable Prime Minister of India.
