Third Meeting of Steering Committee of Ken-Betwa Link Project

The Third Meeting of Steering Committee of Ken-Betwa Link Project (SC-KBLP) was held today at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi under the Chairmanship of Secretary, DoWR, RD & GR, Ministry of Jal Shakti.    In addition to this, two wildlife sanctuaries namely Nauradehi Wildlife Sanctuary and Rani Durgawati Wildlife Sanctuary of Madhya Pradesh and Ranipur Wildlife Sanctuary of U.P. have been approved by state govt. for bringing them under the project Tiger. This is a significant step in increasing the carrying capacity of PTR.   Proposal for Constituting an R&R Committee to monitor the implementation of R&R plan in transparent and time bound manner was finalized during the meeting. A Greater Panna Landscape council is also being constituted for implementation of Landscape Management Plan (LMP) and Environment Management Plan (EMP) of the project. The Ken-Betwa link project

The Ken-Betwa link project envisages diversion of surplus waters of Ken basin to water deficit Betwa basin. The quantity of water proposed to be diverted from Ken basin, after considering in basin demands and downstream commitments earmarked for providing irrigation in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, is 1020 Mm 3 . This link canal will provide irrigation to water short areas of upper Betwa basin of Madhya Pradesh by way of substitution and also to enroute areas of Madhya Pradesh & Uttar Pradesh. The command envisaged in the earlier proposed Ken Multipurpose Project (KMPP) by Madhya Pradesh State Government is also to be irrigated from this project. Apart from drinking water facility & enroute irrigation of 47000 ha in Chhatarpur & Tikamgarh districts of Madhya Pradesh and Hamirpur & Jhansi districts of Uttar Pradesh, provision for downstream commitments of 1375 Mm 3 for M.P. and 850 Mm 3 of water for U.P. has also been kept.  A dam is proposed on river Ken at D...

Bhopal Declaration released after discussion in two-day meeting of Think-20 under G20 in Bhopal

In Madhya Pradesh, more than 300 intellectuals from India and abroad released the Bhopal Declaration after discussing the G-20 agenda in the two-day meeting of Think-20 under G20 in Bhopal. Director General of Research and Information System for Developing Countries-RIS and Chief organizer of Think-20, Sachin Chaturvedi said that the Bhopal Declaration has also emphasized promoting traditional medicine systems like AYUSH and encouraging value-oriented development in infrastructure development. The Bhopal Declaration made an appeal to all the stakeholders to focus more on inclusive development and care for the welfare of every section of society in comparison to GDP, give special attention to children, encourage the model of development led by women, bridge the gap between North and South and work together to ensure the health for all. First G20 Health Working Group Meeting to be held from Jan 18-20 in Kerala

The first G20 Health Working Group Meeting will be held from the 18th to the 20th of January at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. India will look to build consensus on the TRIPS waiver proposal on technologies to fight the COVID pandemic. Earlier this month, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal called for redoubling efforts for the extension of TRIPS waiver to COVID-19 diagnostics and therapeutics at the Voice of Global South Summit.  Mr. Goyal said that India, South Africa, and other developing countries worked together at the WTO Ministerial Conference held in Geneva in June 2022, to obtain the TRIPS waiver decision providing equitable and affordable access to vaccines.
