UIDAI unveils Aadhaar-based authentication framework for Cooperative Banks to benefit across India

To mark the International Year of Cooperatives, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has rolled out a new framework to onboard Cooperative Banks and enable them to deliver Aadhaar-based authentication services, giving a strong push to last-mile banking and digital inclusion. The framework has been developed in close consultation with the Ministry of Cooperation, NABARD, NPCI and cooperative banks. It will cover all 34 State Cooperative Banks (SCBs) and 352 District Central Cooperative Banks (DCCBs) across the country. Under the new system, the process of adopting Aadhaar services has been made simpler and cost-effective. Only the State Cooperative Banks will be registered with UIDAI as Authentication User Agencies (AUA) and eKYC User Agencies (KUA). The DCCBs can seamlessly use the Aadhaar authentication application and IT infrastructure of their respective SCBs. This eliminates the need for DCCBs to develop or maintain separate IT systems, saving costs and ensuring smo...

BHARAT FORECAST SYSTEM

Numerical weather prediction models have two major components—the dynamics and the physics of the model. The dynamics component handles the resolved scales of atmospheric motion, while the physics component represents sub-grid scale processes. In BharatFS, the dynamics have been modified using a new grid structure called Triangular Cubic Octahedral (TCO). The physics components remain similar to those in its predecessor. All details related to the model development and results have been published in a peer-reviewed research journal. More details about the BharatFS are readily available in the below referred research paper published recently. Phani, M.K.R., Kumar, S., Prajeesh, A.G., Bechtold, P., Wedi, N., Roy, K., Ganai, M., Reddy, B.R., Tirkey, S., Goswami, T., Kanase, R., Sarkar, S., Deshpande, M., & Mukhopadhyay, P. (2025). Protecting middle class and youth; promoting e-sports, online social games Introduction The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, passed by the Parliament on 21 st  August 2025, marks a landmark move to shield citizens from the menace of online money games while promoting and regulating other kinds of online games. This legislation is designed to curb addiction, financial ruin and social distress caused by predatory gaming platforms that thrive on misleading promises of quick wealth. It reflects the Government’s resolve to safeguard families while guiding the digital economy towards safe and constructive growth. The seriousness of the issue is recognised globally. The World Health Organization classifies gaming disorder as a health condition in its International Classification of Diseases, describing it as a pattern of play marked by loss of control, neglect of other daily activities, and persistence despite harmful consequences. This highlights why decisive action ...

" Surya " - Artificial Intelligence ( AI ) model Developed by NASA in partnership with IBM and others

Developed by NASA in partnership with IBM and others, Surya uses advances in AI to analyze vast amounts of solar data, helping scientists better understand solar eruptions and predict space weather that threatens satellites, power grids, and communication systems. The model can be used to provide early warnings to satellite operators and helps scientists predict how the Sun’s ultraviolet output affects Earth’s upper atmosphere. The model’s success builds directly on the Solar Dynamics Observatory’s long-term database. Launched in 2010, NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory has provided an unbroken, high-resolution record of the Sun for nearly 15 years through capturing images every 12 seconds in multiple wavelengths, plus precise magnetic field measurements. Surya’s strength lies in its foundation model architecture, which learns directly from raw solar data. Unlike traditional AI systems that require extensive labeling, Surya can adapt quickly to new tasks and applications. Applications i...

RISE OF AI-DRIVEN CYBERCRIME AND MEASURES TO CURB FINANCIAL LOSSES

The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) compiles and publishes the statistical data on crimes in its publication “Crime in India”. Specific data regarding Artificial Intelligence (AI) driven cyber crimes is not maintained separately by NCRB. ‘Police’ and ‘Public Order’ are State subjects as per the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution of India. The States/UTs are primarily responsible for the prevention, detection, investigation and prosecution of crimes including cyber crimes through their Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs). The Central Government supplements the initiatives of the States/UTs through advisories and financial assistance under various schemes for capacity building of their LEAs. To strengthen the mechanism to deal with cyber crimes in a comprehensive and coordinated manner, the Central Government has taken steps which, inter-alia, include the following: The Ministry of Home Affairs has set up the ‘Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre’ (I4C) as an attached office to deal...
